Well you don’t see these too often. During the early 30s Gibson decided to switch over from 12 to 14 frets to the body on their L-1s using their existing 14 fret archtop necks. What resulted was a small run of L-1s with elevated fretboards, like this one! It’s not necessarily something you necessarily see right away, but after a few strums it becomes evident to the ear that the elevated fretboard L-1s are different. This guitar is very lightly built, X braced, and retains most of the important original touches (most of the finish, bridge plate, pickguard, etc.)
The neck has been reset, the back of the neck has been refinished, there are three repaired stable cracks on the top and two on the back, the binding has been repaired here and there, and the bridge has been reglued. The neck angle and setup is spot on!
